Attila Bodnár studied tirelessly for his exams, commuting weekly between his home and the university, and successfully obtained his university degree. This could be the typical schedule of a diligent student, but in fact, it has also been part of the life of Parfé, the guide dog, until now, wrote Blikk in its article.
Parfé’s owner, Attila Bodnár, recently obtained his degree in sports economics. The loyal four-legged friend, who was trained by the Baráthegyi Guide Dog and Assistance Dog School, accompanied his owner every time he left Veszprém to attend school in Debrecen.
Attila lost his sight many years ago due to an eye disease: he had no problems until his twenties, but then he went blind as a result of glaucoma and subsequent complications. He doesn’t say that it was easy to continue with his life, but what happened to him gave him a kind of strength—as he said, perhaps a certain compulsion to prove himself and conform—thanks to which he not only lives a full life, but also works at several jobs and has even become the manager of a sports club in Budapest.
He slept through a few lectures, but Parfé still deserves the degree
“That’s why I started the training in Debrecen, because I realized that I needed something in addition to my existing qualifications to help me do my job even better” Attila said.
In the end, the University of Debrecen was the only place where he could study sports economics by correspondence, so he had no choice but to travel from his home in Veszprém to Debrecen every week for classes and lectures. Without Parfé, the four-hour journey would have been almost impossible, but he sat in on lectures and exams with him.
“He was always with me during group written exams, and it turned out that he was also very good at relieving exam stress,” said Attila. “When I had to give a presentation, he stood with me at the lectern, but I have to admit that there were times when he snored loudly through an entire lecture.
Recently, he appeared at the graduation ceremony with his owner.
“It’s true, he didn’t officially receive a university degree, but in the end I gave him mine,” said Attila.
Recently, we reported on who Parfé went on vacation with and about our guide dog who works in a hospital with his owner.
