On Wednesday evening, Topáz gave birth to eight healthy puppies – but the day still had one more miracle in store! Hours later, a ninth little one arrived: a yellow girl, half the size of her siblings, and it’s truly a miracle that she’s alive and healthy.
A Lively Little Team
“The birth went smoothly, with a new puppy arriving almost exactly every half hour, so the main part of the process was quick and uneventful. The eight little ones are uniform, healthy, and full of life: the smallest weighed 438 grams, the largest 507. By the end, Topáz was a bit tired, but she remained calm and confident the whole time – she knew exactly what to do and did an amazing job,” said Piroska Komondi.

The Ninth Pup Was the Real Surprise of the Evening
By the end of the day, everyone was relieved: eight healthy puppies had been born, and both the mother and the babies were doing well.
But Piroska felt that something wasn’t quite finished.
“When the eighth puppy was born, I still felt the story wasn’t over. We kept an eye on Topáz – and it’s a good thing we did, because later that evening the ninth little one arrived: a beautiful yellow girl, half the size of her siblings. She’s still weak and needs to grow stronger, but her will to live is incredible. She’s getting every chance to thrive, because we’re here for her and helping her in every way we can.”
This tiny girl is a true miracle – small, but determined, and every day she proves that she wants to live.

The Puppies Are Growing Safely
Topáz is the perfect mother in every respect. She’s calm, balanced, and completely trusting toward her puppies – there’s no unnecessary worry, only patience and devotion.
“All eight of them eat, sleep, poop, whimper, crawl, and roll around – just like in the textbook. Topáz is a composed, experienced mom: she doesn’t stress, doesn’t overprotect, doesn’t try to control everything. There’s complete trust. She’s there for her babies day and night; she only runs out for a quick meal or bathroom break, then hurries right back to them,” said our volunteer, Gizella Ménesi.

The tiniest puppy does everything her siblings do – she just needs a little extra care:
“The smallest one does the same things as the others, but she also gets formula every three hours. We hope her weight will start to increase in the next few days — for now she’s maintaining it, but she’s visibly getting stronger and more active. Of course, we’re doing everything we can to make sure she grows up.”

Topáz and all nine puppies are doing well and resting peacefully, while the smallest one grows stronger each day. We believe that one day, this little yellow girl will become a service dog and make someone’s life brighter – because she’s already shown us that she’s a true little hero.
The previous litter is already living with volunteer puppy raisers — you can read about them here.
