This week, Topáz’s puppies are moving to their puppy-raiser homes, as they are all ready for the transition. Before that, in the rainy weather, what else could they do but happily run around the garden, muddy from head to toe. Alongside this joyful news, we must also share a sad one. This week, we said goodbye to the smallest puppy, who is unfortunately no longer with us.
The N-litter puppies became very serious and calm by nine weeks of age. Gizella Ménesi happily watches them and reassures us that they are now ready for the move. From the window, she sees them bustling beautifully in the backyard; they do not fight with one another but play in a gentle, polite way.
Our volunteer puppy-raiser said:
Their favorite game is tug-of-war with the cowhide, someone grabs it and tries to run away or hide, while the others chase and try to take it from them. They are wonderful puppies, and you can see that they are ready for work. They sit right in front of you, as if to say, “Give us a task already.” The environment is wet now, and I’m muddy up to my neck from them, but it doesn’t matter.
Farewell to Nicsak
A week ago, the ninth and smallest puppy stopped eating, so we immediately took her to the hospital for an examination. An unknown type of lesion was found in her mouth, which had been improving. She was kept in the hospital for several days to determine why she was not developing like her sisters. She could have come home over the weekend — her caregivers were eagerly waiting for her — but suddenly her little heart stopped. The doctors attempted resuscitation immediately, but sadly, they were unsuccessful.
While Topáz, the mother dog, and her volunteer caregivers were always there for her, and the hospital staff monitored her closely, she was that tiny puppy who was warmed in socks and rested wrapped in sweaters. She was only eight weeks old, yet she received all the care and love possible.
She recently got a name: Nicsak. We all had high hopes that, in time, she would catch up with her siblings. Now we are very sad that it did not happen.
Her caregiver, Gizella Ménesi, remembers her this way:
It was eight weeks of happiness. She wanted to live, and in every moment, her joy shone through. We knew anything could happen, yet we hoped until the very last moment. Even in the hospital, she was in the best possible hands. She grew up loved, alongside her eight perfect siblings, and enjoyed everything she received until the very end: all the care and pampering. There has never been such a struggle around a puppy, and I know that her story touched many of us deeply.
Rest in peace, dear Nicsak! Grow big, play well, and enjoy delicious treats up there!
We thank Gizella Ménesi and her family, as well as Nadinka Kiglics, for lovingly caring for Nicsak until the very end.
We are grateful to all of you for cheering for the little one along with us!
Our farewell to Nicsak was first published on our Facebook page.
