Good night’s sleep in the outdoor doghouse

While temperatures are dropping, Zorka’s puppies have spent their first night in the outdoor doghouse.

They surely weren’t cold, as we measured +26 degrees Celsius inside the hut, with the puppies and the mother dog warming themselves up. The mother would never leave them alone. Their caretaker, Gizella Ménesi, explained that due to the cold, they couldn’t leave anything to chance, which is why they added 10 cm of insulation to the dog house years ago and hung a thermal curtain on the door.

The thermal curtain must be used cleverly

We can also be assured that not a single puppy will be left outside in the cold by any chance, as they have all confidently learned to go in and out through the thermal curtain. Ever since they have been going outside to the garden, I have been watching them to see when the timing will be right, this was one of the preconditions for sleeping outside

– said Gizella.

Night life in the hut

The puppies still nurse several times at night in addition to solid food, then they play a bit and fall back asleep. The outdoor doghouse is so spacious that there’s plenty of room for play, meaning they don’t need to change anything compared to sleeping inside.

Sleeping outside helps with house training

Our experienced puppy raiser observed that puppies that sleep through the night usually will not go potty, while others that do play tend to do so. This doesn’t usually happen in the doghouse, meaning that if they wake up, they do their business outside. So, sleeping outside also contributes to our puppies becoming house trained more quickly.

“Nem vagyok álmos.” means I’m not sleepy.

The puppies from Baráthegy feel at home both in the house and in the garden, the advantages of which we wrote about last week, when they could spend less time outdoors.
