She plods and sleeps plenty, which has a reason beyond the hot weather: she will have her puppies soon. We had a chat about our dog Azúr, with her owner, Sára.
Sára Kovács moved here to Hungary from her hometown, Topolya which is located in Serbia. She learned to become a financial analyst in Budapest and Szeged. Her partner is from Miskolc, they moved together to the city a few years ago. „I was just thinking about how to connect to the blood circle of the city, when I read in the town magazine about the puppy raising program of the Baráthegyi Guide Dog School. I started with a 1-month period, when one of the puppies stayed with me, and I looked after the dog, while her trainer was away. It went so well, that we took on a puppy as our own with my partner, Gábor. Thus, Azúr came to our life” – Sára told us.
She was the tiniest in her litter, but so dominant, that she always happened to be found on the top of her much bigger brothers’ head. Since then, it hasn’t changed that she likes to make decisions. She has been always keen on and interested in humans and animals, so Sarolta had to work quite hard getting her to resist making friends during learning sessions. She got fond of Azúr, this easily adaptive, clever puppy.
Sára’s parents had a dog, but Azúr was the first to be her very own. The one year flew away fast, and it was time for the puppy to start her training to become a guide dog – then everything changed.
“I was prepared to give her back to the Foundation, when they decided, that Azur will continue her helping work as a mother dog. I was glad to have her stay with me, because however I thought I was prepared to give her back, we became very much attached to her. With Azúr by my side, I am constantly learning a lot from the coworkers of the Foundation about training and teaching dogs. This time is perfect for me to learn how to provide her the best environment during the pregnancy” – said Sára.
Azur is now at the third part of her pregnancy. She sleeps more and more, and moves around slower, exploring the Bükk with her owner, but even bigger changes are yet to come.
We will keep you updated and wish Sára and Azúr peaceful weeks until the birth of the puppies.
