Malina’s Puppies Discover Daisies

Malina’s puppies turned three weeks old this week: their eyes have opened, their teeth are coming in, and they’ve started to explore the world. These tiny adventurers spend their days tumbling around, taking long naps, and making new discoveries.

Romping around their new space

According to their caretaker, Zoltán Cser, the puppies’ daily routine is as follows: “They start playing actively at 5:30 AM, then rest at 6:30 AM. During the morning, the toys come out again, and they are lively again around 11:00. In the evening, they start playing around between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. They spend the in-between periods sleeping and eating. Malina still has plenty of milk, so this is completely enough for the little ones for now. Now they are not in the puppy room, but in the living room, where they have a 2.5 x 2.5 meter fenced-in room. There is plenty of space here to run around, play, and get to know each other. Their need for exercise increases day by day, as their strength and dexterity develop.”

Afternoon walk among the daisies

Although they have only been holding their hands to breathe, this is their first time on the ground: yesterday afternoon they were able to go outside and get to know the grass and flowers. This is an important milestone in their development, as this is the first time they have been able to feel the grass under their feet and the scents of different plants.

Different personalities who develop at their own pace

Individual character traits are already clearly visible between the siblings. “The younger one is more involved in the game, the older one seems more thoughtful, has a calmer character,” said Zoltán, then added: “The younger one is playful, lively and exploratory, often nibbling on his mother’s ear, while the older one is more observant, attentive, and reacts calmly to stimuli.”

The development of puppies can be observed not only during the day but also while they sleep. “They whine and run in their dreams. With little experience, they can dream in a way that is unbelievable to me.” The small movements and sounds during sleep show that their nervous system is also developing nicely.

Teething has also begun: “The smaller one has already started to show its needle-like teeth, while the bigger one only has bumps on its gums.” This is another sign that the introduction of solid food is not far off.

The next few weeks will bring new excitement: they will soon start eating solid food in addition to their mother’s milk and will be running around more and more courageously and steadily, but in the meantime, we will be watching with admiration as these little ones become more skillful, braver and more and more independent every day.
