The six-week old puppy test for the Labrador litter, recently introduced on Facebook Live, took place at the headquarters of Baráthegyi Guide Dog School on Saturday. We were curious about the capabilities and personality of the prospective guide dog puppies, so that we can find the most ideal volunteer puppy raising family for them.
Latte, Lámpás, Lars, Limbó, Legenda, and Leon left their home for the first time in their life and came to our center. During the test we monitored how the puppies react to a new environment, new objects, and an unknown person calling and contacting them in this situation. We studied their self-dependence, apport, noise sensitivity, short-term memory, and were also curious how motivated and cooperative the puppies are.
Every puppy is a different individual. For example, Latte was looking for the puppy raiser, and it took time for her to contact to the test person, while Lámpás was very pleased with the unknown person and followed him. Lars was an independent explorer, and the source of the noise did not put him off. Instead of playing, Limbo was clinging and climbing to the person’s lap. Legenda was playing with pleasure, everything was interesting to him, and the whole test was just a big game for him. And Leon, as we assumed, had a calm attitude to everything, thanks to his balanced nature.
