Milan and His Guide Dog, Nelson

One day after a short nap right after lunch in the kindergarten. Milan has woke up to realize that he sees only blurry spots. After a long hospitalization, he began his studies at the Primary School for the Partially Sighted. Although Milan had been walking and travelling in the busy streets of Budapest with a white cane, for many years, due to his balance problems caused by his illness, he was able to walk slowly and sometimes very unsteadily. It came to his mind two years ago to have a guide dog with whom he could be able to walk on his own and confidently on the crowded streets. As he put it: this year “a dream came true”, when he received his beautiful and smart guide dog, Nelson. During nearly a week spent with us, they successfully tackled with the bustle of a large department store, a breakneck obstacle course and the urban traffic. Months of learning are still ahead of them until the traffic safety exam, but they already adore each other.

In this picture Milan and his dog, Nelson are sitting in a room, next to each other, on the floor. Milan is smiling and gently embracing Nelson, who is a Labrador look alike doggy.
